Afghans, Quiches, and Football

I realized late last night that it was time to turn the clocks back.  This is always the BEST news one can give.  We gain an hour of sleep, and it means another season is taking full ownership of our days.  It literally means you are given an extra hour to spend doing anything you want, and it being on the weekend, its the best excuse to sit around in your PJs for an extra hour, while those less prone to accepting this gain in time, are out buzzing and honking around you (I live on a busy street).

And so I sit, in my Steelers PJ pants with matching sweatshirt and slippers (I'm from Pittsburgh, PA don't hate!) with my adorable baby kitty (I only have 2 cats no need to call Oprah) is in her jersey.  Note she (Crosby) is a tiny cat, as I found her and the Vet told me she would not live.  1 1/2 years later and she is the most adorable loving animal in the world.

Crosby the BIggest Smaller Pet Pittsburgh Fan!
And so we are waiting around for the game that starts in about 6 hours from now.  Having tied up all my needed errands for the week last night, I sit and wonder "with an extra hour today, what should I do?

Then it dawned on me:  Afghans and Quiche!  (Please don't try to understand my logic, for years it has been a mystery).

I woke up this morning thinking of how last year I learned how to crochet, and being the adventure seeker, within 4 days of learning I started a Christmas themed Afghan.... in a tedious and at the time only stitch I knew: single stitch crochet.  The design was set to be about 8ft by 10 ft. and I wanted it done for Last year's Christmas Morning.

Currently, now 1 year later, it is the wanted 8 feet wide, but 1.2 feet long.  A blanket fit perfect for a table runner!  With my birthday coming up and another year under the belt, I decided to pick my crochet hook up and start working on what will one day be, a gorgeous candy cane striped afghan.

And so I pulled out the dusty bin of my crochet past (8 months is a long time), and got my material out to begin my adventure once again.  But after 200 stitches and 8 oz. of Coffee, I wanted breakfast too.

But what breakfast would fit this morning's mission?  WHat would be the best breakfast to enjoy, that could last me at least 1/2 foot of stitching?  And just like that I thought of it:  Quiche!  And not just any quiche, no this morning was too worthy of an exotic taste excursion... So I made Blue Cheese Vegetable Quiche perfect with Chives, Mushrooms, Sundried Tomatoes, and Onions.

Blue Cheese Vegetable Quiche
What You Need:
6 Eggs
Flaky Butter Crust (or pre-made Pie  Crust)
1/2 cup Sliced Mushrooms
2 Chives, diced
1/4 cup Chopped Onion
1/4 cup Crumbled Blue Cheese
1/4 cup Sundried Tomatoes, sliced
Pinch Salt
Pinch Black Pepper

To start, pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  Place the Pie Crust into a lightly greased pie pan.  Whisk the eggs with the blue cheese, salt, pepper, and 1/4 cup water.  Add the veggies and stir.  Pout the egg veggie mixture into the pie crust and bake 1 hour.

Serve warm with your favorite juice and enjoy!  This is a great way to start, or even end, your day!

With crust rolled out, veggies sliced, and over set to 350 degrees, I toss the ingredients together and stitched while it baked.  One hour, and and inch of blanket complete, I removed this feast and let it cool.  My house now smelling like great success and harmony.

In taking a break from stitching I sat down to an amazing plate of Quiche and another fresh cup of coffee.  I must say, this recipe I threw together was a very good, and highly addictive idea.

Now in a food coma, and with Crosby falling asleep on my lap, I am thinking about perhaps using my blanket as a table runner so I can tie it up and take a nap... It would be a gorgeous table accent, and an hour nap wouldn't hurt, it's extra time anyways ;)

Enjoy your  Sunday Funday!
Best,

  1. Love the sentiment, Crosby, and the quiche sounds amazing Aimee! Oh and btw Grandma Price would be proud to hear you are crocheting ... I had a green and white afgan that same 'table runner' size all four years at SRU... I wanted to use it in the stands to keep me warm for football games when I was 'half dressed' as a Rocklette! hahahaha GO STEELERS! Hugs!
